ITIL Expert – Is it really worth the effort? How to get it?
We are familiar with
different levels of certification that an ITIL offers.
Thousands of IT professionals have been
benefited with ITIL certification but 90% of people taking ITIL Foundation level don’t go further. ITIL Expert level that provides an advanced understanding of ITIL, requires a candidate to have sufficient credit points that are accumulated by passing ITIL Foundation level, Intermediate level and MALC exam.
ITIL Expert level is the way to the ITIL Master level, which is the highest and final qualification within ITIL scheme.

ITIL V3 Expert certification requirements
The candidate who is
ITIL foundation certified and is working on ITIL processes from long time. To qualify for Expert certification, candidate need to clear the ITIL foundation, intermediate and MALC levels.
Formal training through ATO, Accredited Training Organization or approved e-training is must mandatory before taking up an exam.
ITIL V3 Expert certification credit scheme and examination format
This requires a candidate to earn at least 22 credits.

2 credits from ITIL foundation level

15 or 16 from ITIL intermediate level

5 credits from ITIL managing across the lifecycle(MALC)
Every module has same format despite of varying credits. The exam consists of eight questions with multiple choice answers. There isn’t one correct answer to the question rather all the answers are correct. The best possible answer gives maximum points to the question. The
passing marks for each module are 70%.
The
exam can be taken online or on paper. The candidate can request for an examination to an ATO and depending on the infrastructure an online or paper exam is scheduled.

The exam test the knowledge based on the core books of ITIL. There are no sample papers available on internet. During the training session, ATO provides all necessary information and shares the set of sample papers that are provided by
ITIL examination bodies.
Before anyone takes up an exam, he needs to sign an undertaking of not to reveal the question to rest of the world.
