ITIL Examination Process

The ITIL website is not responsible for taking care of the application and administration for the ITIL examination. The owner of the ITIL has delegated the examination administration to PeopleCert and APMG International accredited Companies. These companies will conduct the Exam and issue the certificate. Candidates for the ITIL 2011 Foundation Certification would need to contact the Accredited Training Organizations (ATO) or Examination accredited Institutes and arrange for the examination to get certification.

Unlike most other popular certification examination, there is no official cost for the ITIL Foundation examination as ITIL has left the examination administered to the ATO or Examination Institutes. ATO charge the fees along with the training program. The exam fee is approximately US$250.

ITIL Foundation Exam Structure:

ITIL 2011 foundation exam is available in both online and paper‐based exams format. ITIL examinations have been translated into a variety of languages. For both the formats, the exam structure is:

● Multiple Choice Questions

● 40 questions per paper

● 26 marks required to pass (out of 40 available) ‐ 65%

● 60 minutes duration

For web-based exams, results are immediate. For paper‐based exams, results are sent within 3 days upon receipt of the exam papers. For the web‐based exam, a Score Report is generated immediately after the exam is over and a soft copy of the ITIL Foundation Certificate is sent by the International accredited Companies (PeopleCert or APMG) within 2 weeks time.
